DRAMA POLICIES

Acting & Musical Theatre Policies

2026–2027 Season

Our Approach

These policies are here to help every performer learn, create and participate in a safe, positive and well-organized environment. We appreciate families working with us to support consistent attendance, respectful behaviour and a Drama experience where students can build skills, confidence and creativity.

Welcome to Drama at Stouffville Academy

We want every student’s Acting & Musical Theatre experience to be positive, productive and enjoyable. Our Drama programs are designed to help performers develop acting, communication, creativity and performance skills in a supportive environment where beginners and experienced students can learn and grow.

The policies below help students, families and educators know what to expect throughout the season. If you ever have a question or concern, please reach out. A quick conversation with our office can often help us find the best way forward.

1.

Attendance & Commitment

Regular attendance is important for each performer’s progress and for the class as a whole. Drama classes build from week to week, and consistent attendance becomes especially important when students are working on scenes, musical numbers or performance material.

If your child will be absent, please let the Stouffville Academy office know as early as possible rather than contacting the educator directly.

There is no refund or credit for missed classes or lessons because the child’s place, teacher time, and program costs remain reserved. Group class absences are not eligible to be made up.

Ongoing or frequent absences can affect individual progress and group preparation, so please speak with us if attendance becomes difficult.

2.

Arriving Ready for Class

Arriving on time helps performers settle in, take part in the opening activities and make the most of their class. Please plan to arrive with enough time for your child to be ready when class begins.

If a performer arrives late, they should follow the educator’s direction about when and how to join the class so the group can continue with as little interruption as possible. We understand that occasional delays happen, and we appreciate families making every reasonable effort to arrive on time.

3.

A Positive Learning Environment

Drama works best when students feel safe, respected and comfortable taking creative risks. We ask performers to:

  • Be attentive, prepared and willing to participate.
  • Treat fellow students, educators, staff and families with kindness and respect.
  • Follow the educator’s instructions and use classroom materials appropriately.
  • Support scene partners and classmates so everyone has room to learn, contribute and try new things.
  • Use language and behaviour that help create a welcoming environment for the whole group.

We understand that children are still learning how to manage attention, emotions and group expectations. If behaviour repeatedly interferes with the safety or learning of the class, we will connect with the family so we can talk through the concern and determine appropriate next steps.

If your child has a disability, learning, sensory, medical, mobility, communication or behavioural need that may affect participation, please speak with us. We welcome the opportunity to understand your child’s needs and discuss practical supports that may help them participate successfully.

4.

Class Placement & Joining After the Season Begins

Drama classes are organized by program and age so students can learn, create and perform alongside their peers. For the 2026-2027 season, placement is based on the performer’s age in September 2026.

Students may be able to join a Drama class after the season has started when space is available and the educator feels the student can enter successfully. If a class is already well into rehearsal, choreography or performance preparation, we may recommend another class or a different starting point.

If you are unsure which class is the best fit, please contact us. We are happy to help you compare KinderBroadway, Musical Theatre and Theatre / Acting options.

5.

Teacher Absences & Instructor Changes

Consistency matters, and we do our best to provide students with a stable teaching experience throughout the season. Occasionally, however, an educator may be unavailable because of illness or another unexpected circumstance.

Whenever practical, Stouffville Academy may arrange a qualified substitute so the class can continue as scheduled. If we must cancel instruction and cannot provide an appropriate substitute or alternative, we will contact families with the applicable make-up, credit or other resolution.

In special circumstances, Stouffville Academy may also need to make a permanent educator change. Any replacement will be selected with the needs of the class and the quality of instruction in mind.

6.

Inclement Weather & Closures

Weather conditions can change quickly, and an afternoon or evening class may still run even when daytime schools have closed. Please do not assume that Stouffville Academy is closed because another school or organization has cancelled.

If severe weather requires Stouffville Academy to cancel classes, we will notify families by email and post an update on our social media channels. If conditions are uncertain, please check your email or our social media before travelling to Stouffville Academy.

7.

Drama Tuition & Registration

Tuition for Stouffville Academy’s 2026-2027 Drama classes is based on the full September-to-May season and is divided into equal installments for ease of billing.

  • The tuition installment is $49 for KinderBroadway.
  • The tuition installment is $69 for Musical Theatre and Theatre / Acting classes.
  • HST is additional to all Drama tuition.
  • Students beginning after the start of the season will have tuition pro-rated based on their start date.
  • A $25 annual registration fee per student applies at registration.

The amount shown on the Drama Schedule represents one tuition installment rather than the total tuition for the season. Current class times, availability and tuition information are available on the Drama Schedule page.

8.

Withdrawing from Drama

Drama can be exciting, but it can also ask students to try unfamiliar things, speak in front of others and take creative risks. Some performers need time to become comfortable with the class, the educator and the group.

If your child is struggling or you have concerns, please contact our office before withdrawing. A different class, age group or program may be a better fit, and we are happy to talk through the options with you.

If you decide that withdrawal is necessary, written notice through the required withdrawal form is needed. Simply missing classes does not constitute notice of withdrawal.

  • For withdrawal notice received before the 15th of the month, payment is required through the end of the current month.
  • For withdrawal notice received on or after the 15th of the month, payment is required through the end of the following month.

9.
