School Drama Policies
WELCOME

We thank you for folowing our policies. Due to the number of students enrolled in our school, we put these policies in place to make our school more efficient for our students, teachers and parents. The following guidelines and policies have been established to ensure a warm, friendly and professional relationship between us.

Our goal is to develop the student's full acting potential with individualized instruction by providing balanced repertoire, progressive technique, and most importantly, a love of drama and theatre. We are very concerned about student progress and want the time we spend together to be positive as well as fun. Please let us know of any concerns or questions you may have throughout the year.

Private Drama Class Scheduling

All private class scheduling is done through the office. Changes cannot be made directly with your teacher. Once a lesson time is established, it is important that we maintain the student's lesson time.

We recognize that schedules can change. If you require a permanent change in your lesson time, please advise the school via email at drama@stouffvilleacademy.com.

Conduct

Students are expected to:

  • Be attentive and well behaved.
  • Treat fellow students, teachers, and other parents with kindness and respect at all times.
  • Be ready for class on time be ready when class begins.
  • Have all required equipment with them at all times.
  • Make every effort to attend all classes.
  • Ask questions when they have a concern, or do not understand something.

*Disruptive or other rude behaviour is not conducive to a positive learning environment and will not be tolerated. Our programs are not suitable for children with behavioural difficulties.

Lateness

It is important that students are on time for their drama classes.

Absence Policy

Your place in class is reserved especially for you. Please do not schedule other appointments or activities during your group class times.

Unattended classes may not be made up.

Student Cancellations

Please notify the office, not your teacher, if you are unable to attend a lesson. Call the office at 905 640 9337 or send an email to drama@stouffvilleacademy.com.

Regular attendance is extremely important. Continual absence does impact the progress of the whole class. Please make every effort to attend all classes.

There are no credits or refunds given for student absences.

Teacher Cancellations

Due to unexpected circumstance, your instructor may be absent. If your teacher is not available for any reason, a qualified supply teacher will fill in.

Stouffville Academy of Music and Dance reserves the right to, under special circumstances, replace your current teacher with a new qualified teacher.

Inclement Weather

In the case of inclement weather, parents are asked to call the school to confirm whether or not classes will be cancelled. A recorded message will be left on the school voice mail by 3:30 pm. Please do not assume that classes are cancelled if daytime schools are closed, as the weather can change quickly.

Tuition Payment Information

Payment for lessons is made via automatic debit from your credit card, checking or savings account. Payment is withdrawn on the 1st of the month. For ease of payment purposes the annual tuition is divided into nine equal payments. HST must be added, where applicable.

If lessons are started later in the academic year, the yearly tuition is prorated and divided over the remaining months.

An annual enrolment fee of 25.00 per student is charged when a student enrols in any program at any time during the year.

The Studio Environment

It is expected that everyone wait quietly inside the office rather than the hallway so as not to disturb the other businesses in the building. In order to alleviate congestion in the office, parents are asked to drop off students no more than ten minutes prior to their scheduled class time and to pick them up promptly afterwards. Please do not disturb or interrupt ongoing classes.

No food or drink is permitted in the drama studios. Parents and students are permitted beverages while in the waiting area.

Parent Observation

Parents are not allowed to watch group classes. Our goal is to create a safe supportive space where students feel comfortable and free to take chances while exploring their own movement potential. Audiences create an environment where students feel they are 'on the spot' to perform, which is stressful when practicing, and sometimes struggling with, new skills. Although your child may feel comfortable with you watching, other students will not, and our responsibility is to the class as a whole. As the recital draws near, students have generally mastered new skills and need performance practice. At this time, when students feel ready, parents will be periodically invited to watch the last part of class.

Early Withdrawal from Program

Learning to act is rewarding, but it can also be challenging. Early in a student's study, they may feel discouraged at the pace of their progression. As well, it can take time for a teacher and student to develop a working relationship that best suits the student's needs and learning. As such, we ask that student's commit for a minimum of three months prior to deciding to withdraw from the program. If after this time there continues to be concerns, we encourage you to contact the office to discuss your situation. In some cases, it may be a change of teacher, discipline, or even class time that is required.

If you determine that withdrawing from class is necessary, please request a withdrawal form. Written notification through this form is necessary in order to withdraw from the lessons. Payment will be required until the end of the current month for notifications received prior to the 15th, and until the end of the following month for notifications received after the 15th of the month. Absence from class does not constitute notice of withdrawal.
